Kota Takai nearing return to full training at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur have had quite a busy summer transfer window so far, and even in this late stage of the market, their work is not yet complete. This summer window has seen several departures and arrivals for Spurs, and the team at Thomas Frank’s disposal for the next season is somewhat different from the one that won the UEFA Europa League title last season.

Talking about arrivals, there have been some highly exciting additions to the North London team, including that of the midfielder Joao Palhinha and the winger Mohammed Kudus.

However, the very first player that the Lilywhites signed in this transfer window was the Japanese defender Kota Takai. The 20-year-old center-back arrived at the London side from the Japanese A-League side Kawasaki Frontale for £5 million back in early July.

Unfortunately, the youngster’s start to life in England did not go exactly as planned, as he suffered a plantar fasciitis in his foot only a few days after starting training with Tottenham. As a result, he is yet to step on the pitch for Spurs, either in an official match or in a friendly.

Now, there is some good news for the fans, as per a report from Football.london, Takai has started working on the training pitches at the Enfield complex, which is a sign that the player is on his way to full recovery and might return to full training soon.

The youngster can prove useful for Tottenham

One can argue that he will not be getting a lot of chances to play in the biggest of games this season with Cristian Romero and Mikey van de Ven already established as the starting duo in the center of the defense. Furthermore, Tottenham are also being closely linked with the Bayer Leverkusen center-back Piero Hincapie.

Still, Takai could prove to be of use for Thomas Frank, especially when he is looking to rest his regular starters, and at 20 years of age, he has a lot of time to grow into a top-class defender in the future. Furthermore, his imposing 6’3” height will also make him a very useful member of the backline. Hopefully, he will recover from his foot problems soon to allow the fans to get a glimpse of his game.
