The Cleveland Browns have a major quarterback competition brewing. As of right now, the team has five signal callers on the roster in the form of Joe Flacco, Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, and Deshaun Watson.
Obviously, the team is not going to take five quarterbacks into the regular season. During the upcoming preseason and training camp period, the Browns will look to trim their room down to the best three or four options.
At the very least, there is likely to be one man out of the competition who heads elsewhere in a trade or is released.
While some believe that Sanders could be the long-term quarterback of the future, others think he might not make the roster. One NFL insider has hinted that a Sanders trade could very well be in play.
ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler believes that one of Gabriel, Sanders, or Pickett could be moved to recoup some draft capital for Cleveland.
"Cleveland gave up a third-rounder and two fifth-rounders for Gabriel, Sanders and veteran Kenny Pickett (via trade with Philadelphia)," Fowler wrote. "Perhaps the Browns can get a pick back for one of them."
Throughout his college career split between Jackson State and Colorado, Sanders looked the part of a future NFL star. He can make the throws necessary for the professional level, although he may not have an arm that jumps off the charts. Sanders took care of the football well and brings a contagious energy and confidence to the field as well.
In his four college seasons, Sanders completed 70.1% of his passes for 14,347 yards, 134 touchdowns, and just 27 interceptions.
Heading into preseason and training camp action, the Browns will have some tough decisions to make. Sanders might just make the roster and compete for playing time, but there is still a chance that Cleveland could move on from him before he gets that opportunity.
