New York Liberty star guard Sabrina Ionescu is looking back fondly on her unforgettable 2024 All-Star Weekend showdown with Golden State Warriors icon Stephen Curry—and she’s not ruling out a rematch.

Speaking on Thursday’s episode of Bird’s Eye View with Sue Bird, Ionescu teased the idea of another 3-point contest with Curry, this time possibly in a revamped format that would feature teams or partners.

“Steph and I have talked about it because I think we’ve kind of set the foundation and groundwork of what this could look like,” Ionescu said (Timestamp: 5:33).

She continued, “We’ve thought about doing partners, about figuring out a way, whether we take last year’s championship winner and then bring them into kind of the framework that we have laid out. I think it’s a work in progress, but I will say it’s something that we definitely want to do again at some point.”

Their 2024 duel was one of the highlights of the NBA All-Star Weekend, as the NBA and WNBA joined forces to showcase two of the game’s greatest shooters. Ionescu, fresh off her record-breaking 37-point performance in the WNBA 3-point contest, came out firing with 26 points in their shootout, nailing 8 of 9 money balls.

Curry, however, came from behind with a vintage clutch performance, draining four straight in the final rack to finish with 29 points and take the win.

“We Both Felt the Pressure”: Sabrina Ionescu Opens Up About 3-Point Duel with Curry

Even for battle-tested stars like Sabrina Ionescu and Steph Curry, nerves are real.

Reflecting on their headline-making 3-point contest during the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend, Ionescu admitted that both she and Curry felt the weight of the moment—despite it being a fun, friendly challenge.

“I felt that, and he felt that,” Ionescu shared (Timestamp: 0:30). “We both felt the pressure, like it was real. We were nervous, like we were kinda talking before, but there were just these nerves and fidgety, which was weird because we weren’t really like trying to necessarily beat each other.”

While Curry took the win that night, Sabrina Ionescu’s impressive performance—and her willingness to embrace the moment—made history. More importantly, it marked a breakthrough moment in bridging the men’s and women’s game, something Ionescu says she’ll always be proud of.
