Jacksonville Jaguars just made the best out of a tough situation by coming out on top in more ways than one

On Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars made a trade just before roster cutdowns, which is always a tough situation, as these teams have to cut some really good players who sometimes have some tough things going on in their lives. But they came out on top in two ways after trading Fred Johnson.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jaguars are sending OT Fred Johnson back to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick. So, Johnson goes back to the team he was with last year, and in 2022 and 2023.

This trade isn’t really one that anyone saw coming, but the Jaguars were able to get two different wins out of it.

Jaguars trading Fred Johnson is two wins for GM James Gladstone

James Gladstone is a first-time general manager who happens to have the help of Hall of Fame offensive lineman Tony Boselli as the president. And yet, as a first-time GM, he’s been making some great decisions as far as things look on paper. Now, we still have to see how it all plays out on the field, but so far, so good.

He’s made yet another good decision with the recent trade of sending offensive tackle Fred Johnson to the Eagles. For one, Johnson was likely not going to make the 53-man roster with roster cuts coming soon. So, he would hit the waiver wire, and the Jaguars would basically lose him for nothing.

They traded him and got compensation in return. Sure, it’s only a seventh-round pick, but it’s one more seventh-round pick than they had before. And, this shows that they are probably really happy with what they have seen from Cole Van Lanen, who is now squarely set to be the backup tackle.

That’s a win, because it shows that they are super happy with just rolling with that going into the season, so much so that they traded the guy who was kind of battling. James Gladstone is cooking.
