There are a lot of questions surrounding the Las Vegas Raiders’ wide receivers as the 2025 season is set to begin. Aside from Jakobi Meyers, the Raiders don’t have many proven players at the position, but the franchise made an addition by signing veteran Amari Cooper.
Of course, Cooper began his NFL career with the Raiders, who drafted him fourth overall in 2015. He spent his first three full seasons with the Raiders before they traded him to the Dallas Cowboys in the middle of his fourth year in 2018. However, there are now more concerns surrounding the Raiders and their top wide receiver.
Prior to the Cooper signing, Meyers reportedly requested a trade from the Raiders as the two sides have been unable to come to terms on a new deal, via Ryan McFadden of ESPN:
Las Vegas Raiders starting wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who is entering the final year of his contract, has requested a trade, a source told ESPN.
The Raiders and Meyers have been unable to come to terms on a new deal. Las Vegas, however, has no plans to move on from Meyers, according to a source.
There have been a lot of players around the NFL trying to get new contracts, and with the regular season right around the corner, things are coming to a head. For Meyers, the issue is that he has no guaranteed money remaining on his contract with the Raiders, so he is seeking some security, and the two sides have just been unable to come to an agreement.
As McFadden noted, the Raiders have no plans to move from Meyers, and with good reason, as their wide receiver depth is pretty thin. After Meyers and now Cooper, the only receiver with true NFL experience is Tre Tucker, who has 66 catches in two seasons with the Raiders. Aside from that, the Raiders are relying on rookies Dont’e Thornton and Jack Bech to provide some juice to the receiving corps.
Hopefully, Meyers and the Raiders will be able to reach an agreement. With Terry McLaurin agreeing to a new deal in Washington and even defensive end Trey Hendrickson getting a raise in the final year of his contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, there is reason to believe the two sides can work something out.
The Raiders also made another move, trading a 2026 fifth-round draft pick to the Cleveland Browns for QB Kenny Pickett after Aidan O’Connell suffered a fractured wrist in their preseason finale.
