Jalen Milroe Praised for What He Did After Being Drafted by Seattle Seahawks
USA TODAY Sports

After a standout four-year career with the Alabama Crimson Tide, quarterback Jalen Milroe declared for the NFL draft, entering as one of the most intriguing projects at the position. While still considered a work in progress, Milroe may possess the highest upside of any quarterback in his class.

The Seattle Seahawks selected Milroe in the third round with the No. 92 overall pick. Although he isn’t expected to start immediately—especially following the offseason addition of Sam Darnold—Seattle could still look to take advantage of his athleticism in specific packages designed to showcase his speed and versatility.

Regardless of when he takes the field, Milroe has already made a strong impression within the organization. In a display of humility and respect for his new teammates, he chose not to request a jersey number right away, instead allowing the veterans to select theirs first. After wearing No. 4 during his college days at Alabama, Milroe will now don No. 6 in Seattle.

“I didn't select the number. I know there's vets on the team," Milroe said. "I'm going to pay respect to them. They've been here before me. When the time comes, I will select the number”

Jalen Milroe appeared in 38 games over the course of his four seasons at Alabama, completing 64.3% of his passes for 6,016 yards and 45 passing touchdowns. He also showcased his dual-threat ability on the ground, rushing for 1,577 yards and 33 touchdowns—20 of which came during his final season.

Following rookie minicamp, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald had high praise for Milroe, specifically highlighting his energy and work ethic as early standouts.

"One thing you don't have a feel for with Jalen watching tape or even watching in practice is like the spirit he has from play to play," Macdonald said. "He's got great energy, great competitive energy about trying to get it right. Great command of the huddle. Really takes pride in the operation. All these fundamental things that we're gonna be building from the ground up - he's just got a great attitude about it... if you have that attitude, especially at the quarterback position everybody else tends to fall in line."
