Oman secured a dramatic win over the United States in a Super Over showdown during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match held on Wednesday in Lauderhill, Florida.
Oman captain Jatinder Singh played a pivotal role in the outcome, first anchoring his side’s innings with an impressive century. Sent in to bat after losing the toss, the veteran batter compiled 100 runs off 101 balls, guiding Oman to a competitive total.
His efforts were instrumental in setting a solid platform for his team. Despite Oman's strong showing with the bat, the USA mounted a determined chase. In the final over, Jasdeep Singh scored 17 runs, leveling the match and forcing a Super Over.
The USA, represented by Harmeet Singh and Andries Gous in the one-over decider, managed just 13 runs. Jatinder returned to the crease for Oman during the Super Over and immediately took control, scoring 12 runs from the first three balls. His explosive start ensured Oman quickly surpassed the USA’s total to seal the win.
This victory propels Oman to third place in the League 2 standings, overtaking Scotland. The USA, despite the loss, retain their position in second place.
In a post shared on X, USA cricket said: "So close, Oman dominate the super over and take the win today. USA hope to bounce back in their next clash of the CWC League 2 against Canada on May 25."
Oman is scheduled to play their next fixture against Canada on Friday at the same Lauderhill venue, aiming to build on the momentum from Wednesday's win.
