Jaxson Dart Embracing League's Most Entertaining QB Room

Optimism around the New York Giants was easy to find after an impressive offseason, but a gauntlet of a schedule has tempered those expectations.

The Giants may very well struggle in 2025. But, for as ugly as it might get, it is bound to be more entertaining than 2024. Any new face is an improvement on what Daniel Jones put forth in the final days of his New York tenure, and the Giants added three of them.

First, New York signed Jameis Winston to a two-year, $8 million deal to be a long-term backup option. Soon after, veteran quarterback Russell Wilson put pen to paper on a one-year, $10.5 million contract that locked him into a starting role. Just how long he holds down that job isn’t clear because general manager Joe Schoen also drafted Mississippi passer Jaxson Dart.

As things stand, New York has a four-man quarterback room, and each has a claim to fame. Wilson and Winston have contrasting, but unignorable, personalities. Tommy DeVito is a cult hero hoping to stick around on the practice squad, and with a name like Jaxson Dart, the rookie was born to be electric. It didn’t take him long to separate himself from his predecessor at the podium.

"You need a reality show for that [quarterbacks] room," one NFL coach told Jordan Raanan.

For now, Dart is embracing the Giants’ quarterback room, which might be the most entertaining in the sport.

“Golly, yeah, they've been great,” he told reporters at rookie minicamp. “They were some of the first people to text me when I got drafted. And I thought that was just super cool. Those are those are guys that I've looked up to for such a long time. I've said this before, I remember I was wearing Russell's jersey with the Seahawks when he won a Super Bowl.

“So, like I said, these guys have been people who I've really looked up to. And I hold them in the highest regard. So, I think for me, being in this situation, being able to be a sponge and soak in all the information that I can, will help elevate me. And then at the same time, I just want to compete and make everybody else better in the room as well.”

With so many names, so much pressure to win, and so many obstacles standing in New York’s way, the potential for things to get chaotic is overwhelming. The characters in that room only amplify that.

How the Giants navigate that turbulence could define their season, but having big personalities doesn’t have to be a negative. There is over two decades of experience on New York’s depth chart, and everyone seems to be on board with mentoring Dart.

The pieces are in place for Dart to find success and the Giants to look more competent than years past. Regardless of how many wins that becomes, this team figures to be far more watchable than years past.
