Jeff Traylor Dodged A Question About Texas A&M On Saturday

To paraphrase a popular saying amongst college football coaches, you want to make sure the main thing stays the main thing. In other words, coaches want to keep their players focused on their goals.

For the UTSA Roadrunners, that goal is still playing for and winning an AAC title. That being said, a report surfaced last week that UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor had interviewed for the open head coach position at Texas A&M.

Traylor was asked about it following his team's recent Senior Day win over South Florida and appeared to not appreciate the question.

"We had 18 seniors play tonight, and it's a shame really that that's what everybody talked about," Traylor remarked. "Any second someone was talking about Jeff Traylor and not Frank Harris is a travesty towards those 18 seniors."

To state the obvious...that answer wasn't a no. However, it's understandable and very on-brand for Traylor to make sure that the spotlight stays on his players and that they stay focused on winning their third consecutive conference title.

Traylor was subsequently asked about his emotions during the buildup to Senior Day. Perhaps it's coincidental, but Traylor's answer seemed to take his entire time as the head coach of the Roadrunners into account.

"Because of my seniors, it's been tough, especially with this particular group, because I'm so grateful for those two zeros and a lot of single digits that I'm losing. COVID, took on a high school football coach that probably nobody wanted and we won a lot together. It's been fun."

UTSA and #24 Tulane will face off on Black Friday at 3:30 PM ET on ABC. The winner will secure a berth in the AAC championship game.
