The New York Jets had several ways to go with the No. 7 overall pick in the NFL Draft, and the franchise found itself selecting a no-brainer in Missouri tackle Armand Membou.
The hulking tackle will now come to the Jets and potentially make the switch to right tackle, and give Justin Fields two young star bookends with Olu Fashanu selected in the first round last season.
But perhaps Armand's best quality is his mentality. We know that new head coach Aaron Glenn loves to be tough, physical, and demanding on his players, and as it turns out, Membou's on-field demeanor will suit that just fine.
He called himself a mauler after being drafted, and at his introductory press conference, he was asked exactly what that means.
"When I get on the field, I just flip the switch, no friends out there, just get after everybody," Membou said.
That is the mindset that Glenn wants, and one could say Membou embodies the exact mentality that Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey are after.
The offensive line was a solid outfit last season, with the right tackle spot seen as the only weakness, if you want to call it that.
But with Membou coming to the Big Apple, the best five now looks to be stronger, on paper at least.
Fields didn't get his weapon, but his protection just got upgraded, and that is half the battle, and you can bet that when he steps onto the field, Armand will be ready for war.
