The New York Jets opted against selecting a new weapon for Justin Fields in the first round of the NFL Draft, instead going for Missouri left tackle Armand Membou.
Expected to help fortify Fields' offensive line, Membou comes to the Big Apple, likely as a replacement for right tackle Morgan Moses, and when looking at the front five for the Jets, it is quite the line Fields has in front of him.
However, as for the selection of Membou, yes, it was a pick to reinforce the line, but it was also a nod to the mentality that Aaron Glenn wants his team to have, according to former general manager Joe Douglas.
"It's a solid wall. It's a strong wall up front," Douglas said via Rich Cimini of ESPN. "I think [Membou] is a great pick. It's a mentality pick."
New York's selection shows the rest of the league that they are going to be a tough, physical, gritty football team, and someone in Glenn's image.
With Breece Hall (for now), Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis, the Jets, now with Membou at right tackle and Olu Fashanu at left tackle, have a good group for their trio of backs to run behind to create big gains.
Granted, it isn't an exact science, but we are seeing Glenn's mentality of what he wants his team to be play out right in front of us.
There will be no quarter given by the 2025 Jets. They are playing for keeps, and to do that, you need the right people in the building and the right players on the field.
And with Membou's selection, that signals the Jets' intentions this upcoming season under Glenn - they will be a tough task to handle.
