The New York Jets are in the process of trimming the roster down. While the official announcement from the team hasn’t come yet, plenty of reports and rumors are making their way online. As always, fans are tracking every move and weighing in over in our Jets Roster Cuts thread in the forums.
Some of the names being discussed so far are Jamin Davis, Adrian Martinez, Michael Fletcher, Liam Fornadel, Zack Kuntz, Tanner McCalister, and Lawrance Toafili. Please remember to wait for the official announcement from the team. But with names like Adam Schefter and many of the Jets main stream guys, the cuts mentioned so far definitely seem credible.
There’s also plenty of speculation about the offensive side of the ball. Tight end Zack Kuntz was always a bubble player, and while he has fans who like his upside, many posters in the thread see him as a likely cut with a chance to circle back to the practice squad.
Malachi Corley and Carter Warren are two of the big name cuts. Corley being a 3rd round pick last year, what a fall from grace. Seems like after putting the ball on the one yard line as he was walking into the end zone last year, he never recoverd.
Fans are also watching the defensive line, where players like Michael Fletcher and Jalyn Page were mentioned as candidates to be moved on from. With depth already established along the line, it may be tough for any of the fringe players to hang on.
As always with cutdown day, these are still just reports and rumors until the Jets make things official. In past years we’ve seen players released only to return a day or two later once the team sorts out practice squad and IR designations. That means nothing is final until the Jets publish the official 53-man roster later today.
