Sports fans don't want to hear this, but there'll come a day where Jim Nantz retires from broadcasting.
Nantz, 65, has been covering some of the biggest events in sports since the 1980s. Although his days of being the voice of the Final Four are over, he remains the No. 1 play-by-play broadcaster for the NFL on CBS. He also leads the network's coverage for the Masters.
With the 2025 Masters set to begin on April 10, Nantz addressed his future in the broadcast booth. Believe it or not, he revealed when he's scheduled to retire. Luckily for fans around the country, he isn't going anywhere for the next decade.
Under his current plan, Nantz won't leave broadcasting behind until April of 2036.
"But if all the stars aligned, right now, it feels like a pretty good exit point. April 14, 2036. That is my scheduled retirement date," Nantz told Bunkered. "It would be a perfect place to walk out."
Nantz acknowledged that he may want to stick around a bit longer, especially if he's feeling good in his 70s.
"I know what’s going to happen. I’m going to get to that year, and I’m going to say, ‘You know, maybe I could do this for a while longer.' We have broadcasters over here that have gone on well into their 80s, so that’s one of those ‘wait and sees’, I guess."
Nantz has time to figure out when he wants to ride off into the sunset. In the meantime, he'll continue to cover golf tournaments and NFL games.
Hopefully, Nantz will get the chance to have an iconic call next month at Augusta National.
