The Washington Football Team waived Jimmy Moreland after the team and cornerback agreed to an injury settlement, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post.

Moreland was initially waived on Aug. 31 during final roster cuts with an injury designation due to a knee bruise. The injury is considered minor and he was expected to be ready for Week 1. He cleared waivers reverting back to Washington with the option of him going on injury reserve or agreeing to an injury settlement.

Now, Moreland will be subjected to waivers. If he goes unclaimed by 4:00 PM ET Tuesday, he becomes a free agent and is free to sign with any other team in the NFL.

If he doesn’t land elsewhere, Washington could re-sign him. However, they would have to wait an additional three weeks after Week 1 to bring him back. Although those odds seem low.

A seventh-round pick in 2019, Jimmy Moreland emerged as a rookie making the 53-man roster. He became a fan-favorite and was dubbed “The People’s Corner.”

In two seasons, he played in 30 games while starting 10 games. He had 86 tackles, five passes defensed, one interception and a forced fumble.
