Last weekend, the No. 2 Michigan football team (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) downed the Minnesota Golden Gophers (3-3, 1-2 Big Ten) on the road in Minneapolis, retaining the Little Brown Jug for the fourth time in a row. Still, despite a 52-10 victory on the road, analyst Joel Klatt has moved the Wolverines down heading into Week 7 in favor of the Georgia Bulldogs.

Joel Klatt moves Michigan football down following win over Minnesota Golden Gophers

First off, let’s rewind to Week 5, which saw Michigan football march into Nebraska and take home a massive 45-7 victory over the Cornhuskers — a game that prompted Joel Klatt to boost Michigan to No. 1 in his Week 6 poll. Still, despite a more impressive road win over a better football team in Week 6, Klatt has moved the Wolverines down to No. 2 in favor of the Georgia Bulldogs.

Joel Klatt is one of the most trusted names in college football, and despite being hesitant to pin the Georgia Bulldogs as the top college football program in the country, the Bulldogs’ huge Week 6 win over Kentucky has Klatt high on Kirby Smart’s team once again.

Still, Michigan football was the proud owner of that No. 1 spot last week, and despite another massive victory — on the road in Big Ten play no less — the Wolverines are moving in the wrong direction heading into Week 7 against Indiana.

Now, I can’t be too upset about Klatt’s logic here; after all, Georgia has won two straight national titles and looks fantastic right now. That said, other outlets — such as ESPN’s Football Power Index — have also shown Michigan football some disrespect, so it’s clear the Wolverines still have something to prove this season.
