Sports analyst Joel Klatt released his college quarterback rankings, and South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers was high on that list at number eight out of 10. But while Klatt is excited about Sellers, there's one thing the quarterback needs to improve in order to maintain his momentum.
"If he can do anything remotely similar to what he did in the second half of last year for the entirety of this year, then we've got a star on our hands," Klatt said on the Joel Klatt Show.
Sellers impressed the Fox analyst last year.
"I'm a huge fan of this kid," Klatt said. "I think he is a really good player and again, that second half of the year led himself to the SEC Freshman of the Year as a red shirt freshman. And he's huge; he's 6'3", 240 pounds, he's really tough to bring down. He's athletic, he can get out on the edge. Dynamic athlete."
But Sellers needs to improve his passing game if he's going to stay competitive against some powerhouse SEC teams.
"Still room to grow as a passer..." Klatt added. "I think that this guy is a terrific player and again, like I said, the second half of last year, you watch some of that tape, you see what he does dynamically on the outside. If he can grow and develop as a passer, you're talking about a guy that has all SEC caliber written all over him."
Earlier, in his post-spring top 25 rankings , Klatt put the South Carolina Gamecocks at number 11, thanks to head coach Shane Beamer, LaNorris Sellers , and Dylan Stewart.
"Beamer's done a really nice job at South Carolina," Klatt said. "And here's the other kicker: I love LaNorris Sellers. He's back after a terrific red shirt freshman season... SEC freshman of the year. Really good player. Beamer's already going into year five ... They almost made the playoffs a year ago. Dylan Stewart on the edge defensively. He's one of the better players in the country."
