John Schneider Speaks Out After Making Blue Jays History

After finishing in last place in the AL East last year, the Toronto Blue Jays are in a great position to go from worst to first this season. With roughly a month to go, Toronto is 77-55 and owns a five-game lead over the second-place Boston Red Sox. The Blue Jays have not won the division since 2015, but it is looking like they will end that streak this year.

A big reason for Toronto's success this season is manager John Schneider, who took the role over in 2022 and recently made some team history.

After the Blue Jays' victory against the Texas Rangers on August 16, Schneider recorded his 282nd win as the team's manager, which moved him to fourth place on the franchise's all-time list.

Recently, the New Jersey native spoke about achieving this milestone and made his feelings on the accomplishment clear.

John Schneider Sends Message About His Latest Feat

Schneider has only been the Blue Jays' manager for a few years, but he has already put the team in a great position to succeed. Recently, he credited the team's consistency after his 282nd win, which is an accomplishment he also called "cool" (h/t Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun).

“It’s cool, honestly,” Schneider said when we asked him about the ascent as he headed to the cage for batting practice on Monday. “You look at the guys who are lucky enough to have a job like this and guys who are ahead of you and who you may have passed … It comes down to being consistent. I think I’ve been lucky to have good teams, competitive teams that are in this window that we’re in right now.

Furthermore, Schneider revealed that, while he does not track his wins or records regularly, he still acknowledges the importance of his accolades.

“Any accomplishment or accolade that I may get hits a little bit deeper for me because this is the only team I’ve known,” Schneider told the Toronto Sun. “It’s not something I’m tracking every day — I didn’t even know about (moving into fourth). But to look back and say this is where I hoped I would be, not only in this position, but with this team, is pretty cool.”

With about a month remaining in the season, Schneider and the Blue Jays are in a great spot to compete. For the first time in a while, the Blue Jays are legitimate World Series contenders. Only time will tell if they can make it happen or not, but for now, Toronto's outlook looks good, and they should be competitive for the foreseeable future.
