Legion XIII, led by Jon Rahm, took down the Crushers in a playoff to win the LIV Golf Team Championship at The Cardinal at Saint John’s.

Rahm missed out on last year’s Team Championship due to illness but returned this time to help Legion XIII finish top of the regular season standings.

The final day at The Cardinal at Saint John’s saw Legion XIII and the Crushers pull ahead of Stinger, who struggled to keep pace with the top two teams.

Both teams finished 20 under par, forcing a playoff between Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton for Legion XIII and Bryson DeChambeau and Paul Casey for the Crushers.

DeChambeau and Hatton both birdied the opening playoff hole, but when the Crushers could not match that on the second, it gave Rahm and Hatton the chance they needed to wrap up the win.

Crushers’ captain had been brilliant all day, firing eight birdies in a round of 62. After lifting the trophy, Rahm did not hold back in praising his opponent’s play.

“He played incredible golf. He played unbelievable. His driver was on an absolute rope, and he had the putter going,” Rahm said. “I just tried to stay together with it as much as I could. I tried to remind myself that every three holes there was 12 scoring opportunities for each group or each team.”

He added: “Just kept reminding myself that even two, three holes was enough and just glad that I was able to match him with birdies at the end.”

Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau go bogey-free at LIV Golf Team Championship

It turned out to be a positive day for LIV Golf. While much of the attention was on the PGA Tour’s season finale, LIV managed to produce an entertaining finish of its own.

Having Rahm and DeChambeau in a playoff was probably the ideal scenario for LIV heading into the event. Considering every score counted on Sunday, it is impressive that it played out that way.

The two LIV stars were also the only two players in the final who went through their rounds without a single bogey.

Rahm and Hatton both birdied their last two holes to pull level. And for Rahm, it capped off a strong season, having already secured both titles.

Their battle may have also added some early intrigue ahead of next month’s Ryder Cup.
