The Air Jordan 5s are a classic shoe in the Jordan Brand collection, but more specifically, the Grape colorway is iconic for the 5s. The Grapes made their debut in the '90s, and if you look at pictures of the shoe from around that time, you’ll find plenty of photos of legendary actor Will Smith sporting these kicks while starring in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air television show.
These shoes have been released a few times, but the special thing about this drop is that the shoe will feature a design element that hasn't been seen since the first release in 1990.
For the re-release, the shoe will feature the vintage Nike Air logo, which you don't often see in modern adaptations of retro Jordans. You can open your wallets to cop the Air Jordan "Grape" 5s on April 19, 2025, for a retail price of $210. They will be available in family sizes on Nike SNKRS at 10:00 AM EDT.
On Instagram, Kicks On Fire dropped a post about the shoe, providing information on the lore, the actual feel and performance, the look, and more. They said, "The Air Jordan 5 'Grape' is one of the most iconic colorways in the Air Jordan lineage, capturing the essence of '90s basketball culture and streetwear fashion. Originally released in 1990, the 'Grape' colorway distinguished itself with a bold and vibrant palette that included white leather uppers, a deep purple midsole, and emerald green accents. This unique combination stood out against the more traditional color schemes of the era, making it an instant classic. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan 5 features a sleek, fighter jet-inspired silhouette, complete with a translucent rubber outsole and a reflective 3M tongue. The 'Grape' colorway perfectly complements these design elements, offering a fresh and stylish look that remains timeless."
Although these have been on the market a few times already, I might grab them just to say, "Mine say Nike Air, and yours do not—therefore, mine are better." I'm not sure what move I'll be making, but you can't go wrong with picking these up. For more sneaker news on Nike, Jordan, and beyond, check out these articles below.
