Tyson attended Allen High School in Allen, Texas, where he was a three-star recruit. He committed to Colorado and played in nine games his freshman season, recording 470 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns before suffering a knee injury that ended his season. Tyson transferred to Arizona State, and after missing most of the 2023 season due to injury, he became one of the top contributors for the Arizona State offense in the 2024 season. He led the team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns, helping lead Arizona State to its first Big 12 Championship and College Football Playoff appearance in program history.
Tyson was named Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year and earned All-Big 12 First Team honors. In 2025, he led Arizona State in all three top receiving categories and earned All-Big 12 First Team honors. His brother, Jaylon Tyson, currently plays in the NBA for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Tyson is a smooth and nuanced route runner. He understands how to manipulate defensive leverage and excels at using tempo to get defensive backs off balance and create separation. A fluid and explosive athlete with great quickness and change of direction speed. He is quick in and out of his breaks. Tyson is able to consistently get open on all levels of the field and is especially exceptional at getting open against man coverage, recording an 89.0 PFF receiving grade against man coverage in 2025.
He is great at getting open in the intermediate part of the field and is a legitimate threat vertically downfield with tremendous ball tracking ability. Tyson is a good receiver in contested catch situations as well. He is strong and the catch point and has great body control. He is also a versatile receiver. Has the ability to win from both the outside and the slot.
Tyson dealt with injuries throughout his entire college career. He had a major knee injury at Colorado in 2022, suffering a torn ACL, MCL, and PCL. Tyson also suffered a broken collarbone late in the 2024 season and missed time in 2025 due to a hamstring injury. He can struggle against physical press coverage. Tyson greatly improved his consistency catching the football in 2025, but before the 2025 season, he had issues with dropping the football too often.
Tyson is one of the best route runners and one of the best receivers against man coverage in the entire draft class. He is a good athlete with great movement skills and incredible explosiveness off the line of scrimmage. He has multiple seasons of great production as the leading receiver for Arizona State. Tyson also showed great improvement in consistently catching the ball in 2025, with just one drop on the season. He can struggle against physical coverage, and the injuries are a concern, but he is likely one of the first receivers selected in the draft. Tyson has the route-running ability and separation skills to be a productive starting receiver in the NFL as a rookie. He has the skill set to potentially develop into a quality WR1 at the next level.
