Coming out of retirement, Josh Warrington was in the ring again last night to face Asad Asif Khan. It was a fight on the card at Park Community Arena in Sheffield, England, before the Smith vs Germain fight.

The match was set for ten rounds, and it took all ten rounds for a winner to be determined, with Warrington taking the day after a unanimous decision from the judges. The scores read 99-89, 99-90, and 97-91 in favor of Warrington.

Warrington (32-4-1, 8 KOs), who is a former two-time featherweight champion, is not new to the big stage and, coming out of retirement having lost his previous three matches, was ready for the challenge and chance to show out in the ring.

Warrington started the contest brightly and got the better of his opponent in the early stages of the fight. He was aggressive and looked to land hard shots to Khan’s midsection, but Khan tried his best to prevent him from landing anything of note.

Being 34 years old, Warrington was not able to maintain the momentum he started the fight with. As we got to the sixth round, things got less tense as Khan was able to come back into the fight after being able to sustain the pressure in the early stages of the fight.

Khan (19-7-1, 5 KOs) became hard to finish off in the later stages of the fight as he looked stronger from the seventh round onwards. He pressed Warrington, forcing him to hold. By this time, it was clear that Warrington’s power had gone, as he struggled to keep up with the 31-year-old native Indian who looked stronger.

Warrington might have won the fight, but it was not as easy as he had hoped, as Khan did not give up the fight. He went on to the last round, but it just wasn't enough to tip the tide in his favor.
