Five‑star small forward Jalen Montonati wrapped up his official visit to Kansas State this week and came away impressed by the culture he experienced in Manhattan.
Ranked No. 23 nationally in the 2026 class, Montonati arrived on campus Monday and immediately connected with head coach Jerome Tang.

“The visit was great,” he told On3’s Jamie Shaw. “I got there on Monday. I got to meet with Coach Jerome Tang, and we caught up. Then I went to watch them practice, and then a lift. We went to eat lunch at Coach Tang’s with all the coaches and the team. That was good. And then I met with the strength coaches and nutritionists.”
Over the course of the day, Montonati toured Kansas State facilities and even reviewed game film with the coaching staff.
“I watched film with all the coaches,” Montonati continued. “We went through video of my game, and then how they play. They broke down my game, and they showed me different ways that I would be used in their system.”
Those detailed sessions highlighted the way Tang’s staff values both development and system fit.
Above all else, Montonati said the Wildcats’ family atmosphere resonated most. He was welcomed into Coach Tang’s home and shared meals with the players and staff.
Montonati finished his thoughts, saying, “For me, the family aspect of their program stood out. The way Coach Tang took me to his home was cool; it was great seeing all the guys eating together as a group. Coach cooks meals a lot for his players, lunches, and dinners. So it was cool, for me, to already be accepted into that family.”
The 6‑foot‑7 prospect from Owasso High in Oklahoma enters the fall as one of Kansas State’s top targets. His length, playmaking ability, and clear interest in learning head coach Tang’s system position him as a potential cornerstone of the program’s next recruiting cycle.
His high‑profile visit gives Wildcats fans real reasons to be excited. Montonati’s skill set and mindset reflect the kind of recruit who can quickly elevate the roster, and the strong bond he began building at Kansas State may give the program a competitive edge as he weighs his final decisions.
