Kansas City Chiefs Reunite With 3-Time Super Bowl Champion in Sunday Trade

The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up their preseason on Friday night with a 29-27 loss to the Chicago Bears, but saw several promising moments from starters who played roughly a quarter, helping the team jump out to a 17-0 lead.

With just under two weeks until they kick off the season in São Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, Sept. 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City made a notable trade on Sunday—marking their second roster move in the last five days.

On Wednesday, the Chiefs traded former second-round pick Skyy Moore to the San Francisco 49ers for draft compensation. Over the weekend, they acquired former player and three-time Super Bowl champion Derrick Nnadi along with a seventh-round pick from the New York Jets in exchange for a sixth-round pick.

Derrick Nnadi was a third-round pick by the Chiefs in 2018 and has been an integral part of their defense over the past seven seasons, helping Kansas City become a modern-day dynasty with three Super Bowl wins, five total appearances, and consistent AFC West titles since his arrival.

This offseason, Nnadi signed a one-year deal worth $1.4 million, and it’s likely the Jets moved him due to the possibility that he wouldn’t make their roster when the initial 53-man deadline arrives on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

He appeared in all 17 games for the Chiefs last season, playing roughly 20% of the team’s defensive snaps, and has started 87 of 115 career games.

Primarily used as an interior defensive tackle and run-stopper, Nnadi has totaled 233 combined tackles, 5.0 sacks, and one interception over his career.
