For Akron, everything is going we well as possible.

It’s on a two-game winning streak, and with a struggling Bowling Green to close, there’s a chance to finish with six wins in what would be the program’s best season in years.

It can’t go bowling thanks to issues with its APR - academic progress rate - but this would be a huge step forward for the program to close strong, especially on their Senior Night.

Kent State is at least competitive. It has Central Michigan and Northern Illinois next, but just getting a few wins is tremendous for a program that hasn’t known any success in years.

The last two games were decided by a total of seven points, and this one should be just that close.

There are still plenty of problems moving the chains on a regular basis, and there are still too many mistakes, but the defense has stepped up over the last several games, helped by a strong pass rush and improved run D.

Akron has just as many issues on third downs. It might be playing well lately, but the offensive line is still having a hard time generating a push on a consistent basis. Kent State has to control the run and the tempo, and …

Why Akron Will Win

If Kent State isn’t slowing down the run, it can’t win.

Akron isn’t going lights out with the ground attack, but the passing game is working, and the defense is holding up just enough thanks to a slew of big plays happening behind the line. For the first time in a long while, the attacking style is working.

It all helps when the ground game is taking over. Get to about 160 yards, and all should be fine.

Again, the Kent State run defense is way, WAY better than it’s been in years, but it’ll give up close to five yards per pop.

It’s fantastic to see these two start to win.

No, they won’t challenge for the MAC title or anything, but they’re both well coached, they bring the energy, and on a cold Tuesday night, this should be interesting. Low scoring, but worth the watch.

Akron gets it done at home with a bit more offensive juice.
