Kentucky Faces Florida Gulf Coast in First Away Game

The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team is gearing up for their first true road game of the season. They will be facing off against Florida Gulf Coast at Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Florida on Sunday, November 19th, at 2 p.m. ET. Fans can catch the action on ESPN+ with John Vittas and Cindy Stein providing the commentary.

The Wildcats currently hold a 2-1 record for the season after suffering a loss to Austin Peay in their last game. Despite the setback, senior forward Ajae Petty continues to impress. Petty notched a career-high tying 19 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in the game, marking her second double-double of the season. Her performance places her among the elite in the Southeastern Conference as one of only nine players to achieve multiple double-doubles this year. Petty also contributed three steals, highlighting her defensive prowess. She currently ranks second in the conference and 15th in the nation in rebounds per game, averaging an impressive 12.0.

The Wildcats have already faced the challenge of playing in multiple arenas this season due to Memorial Coliseum’s renovation. They started with their season opener at the Clive M. Beck Center on the campus of Transylvania University, followed by a game at Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center. Their most recent home game took place at the Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on the campus of Georgetown College. As they prepare for their upcoming game against Florida Gulf Coast, the team looks forward to competing in Alico Arena.

Kentucky has witnessed a balanced scoring attack thus far, with four players averaging double-digit points. In addition to Petty’s 16.7 points per game, Maddie Scherr, Saniah Tyler, and Eniya Russell are all contributing with 13.0, 11.0, and 10.0 points per game, respectively. The Wildcats’ offensive success extends beyond this quartet, as seven players have already scored at least 10 points this season. In fact, the team showcased their depth in the first two games, with five starters scoring in double digits during their season opener against ETSU, a feat they haven’t achieved since 2016.

Kentucky has been solid on both ends of the court, averaging 73.0 points per game while holding their opponents to 62.7 points per game. They are also dominating the boards, outrebounding their opponents by an average of six rebounds.
