Alex Raynor, a former University of Kentucky kicker, has signed a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following his invitation to the team’s rookie minicamp. Though undrafted, Raynor brings a decorated and statistically dominant collegiate résumé to the NFL, positioning him as a potential sleeper in the league’s ongoing search for consistent special-teams talent.

Statistical Excellence at Kentucky

Raynor joined Kentucky after transferring from Georgia Southern and immediately established himself as one of the most efficient kickers in the country. Over two seasons in Lexington, he converted 25 of 27 field goal attempts, setting a new school and Southeastern Conference (SEC) record with a 92.6% success rate.

His performance wasn’t limited to short-range kicks. Raynor was flawless from 40 to 49 yards and made 12 of 13 attempts from beyond 40 overall, including four successful tries from over 50 yards. His 55-yard field goal against No. 1-ranked Georgia not only marked a program best but also helped earn him SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Recognition and Reliability

Raynor’s consistency extended beyond field goal accuracy. He made 74 of 76 extra points and tallied 149 points in just two seasons at Kentucky. His reliability was recognized with numerous accolades, including First Team All-SEC honors from league coaches, Second Team All-American recognition by the AFCA, and SEC Special Teams Player of the Year in 2024.

He was also a finalist for the Lou Groza Award and a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy in both 2023 and 2024, highlighting his academic and athletic contributions.

Part of a Larger NFL Pipeline

Raynor’s signing continues a strong NFL pipeline out of Kentucky. He is one of seven undrafted Wildcats to agree to NFL deals this year, joining players like JJ Weaver (Chargers), Zion Childress (Cowboys), and Marques Cox (Broncos). Kentucky also had two players selected in the 2025 NFL Draft: cornerback Maxwell Hairston (first round, Bills) and nose tackle Deone Walker (fourth round, Bills), marking the seventh consecutive year the program has had multiple draft selections.

Next Steps in Tampa Bay

While Raynor’s NFL path begins with a tryout, the opportunity aligns well with a league-wide demand for reliable kickers. His accuracy, range, and poise in high-pressure situations make him a compelling candidate for either a roster spot with the Buccaneers or interest from other franchises. Regardless of the outcome, Raynor’s college career has already laid a strong foundation for a professional transition.
