Killing Floor 3 – The Disappointing Sequel to a Beloved Franchise – Review

Killing Floor 3 is an FPS zombie horde game that emphasizes weapon upgrades and in-game purchases. This newest addition to the series came out earlier this year, and the reception was pretty mixed. From technical issues to lackluster gameplay and story progression, players and fans of the game were pretty disappointed with their experience. Here is a breakdown of the audience’s reactions and the general reception of Killing Floor 3.

A Shift From the Usual Killing Floor Feel

Killing Floor is known for its suspenseful and grimy aesthetic. It’s gory, it’s high octane, and it’s metal as hell. With Killing Floor 3 as the newest installment of the game, people have complained that aesthetic is totally gone. It’s now replaced with bright visuals and quirky characters, which players feel change the whole tone of the game. This also leads to players feeling as if it’s not a Killing Floor game, but just a standard zombie shooting game.

Technical Issues

According to players, they’ve been experiencing technical difficulties in the game, such as poor performance issues, game freezes and crashes, match failures, etc. Players definitely feel this is a huge reason the game isn’t as polished as it should be, considering the distinct feel of the series. It really sucks when online shooter games just can’t perform as they should, so I understand why players are so disappointed in a cult classic game. Though I know updates happen to fix these issues, so I guess we’ll wait and see how the devs will alleviate players’ concerns.

Overall Decent But Could Definitely Be Better

After playing the game myself, I can honestly say that the game is decent. It’s hardcore and pretty fun to play; however, that may be my bias speaking because I do enjoy a good zombie game. I also understand the disappointment players must feel, given how the series measures up compared to this newest installment. I’m an optimist, so I will be patient to see if any more updates change this disappointment, and I hope players will give this one another chance.
