It has been a while since the Sacramento Kings were a force to be reckoned with.

Doug Christie was a player on those early 2000s teams for the Kings that made runs in the playoffs.

He emerged through the coaching staff ranks as an assistant (2021-24) and interim head coach (2024-25), but the interim tag was removed from Christie on May 1 to be the head coach. Sacramento has talented pieces on its roster, including Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Keon Ellis, and Malik Monk. The Kings want to return to being serious contenders in the league, but it starts with surrounding Christie with marquee assistants. Sacramento has added longtime NBA coach Mike Woodson to its staff.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the news on Wednesday as Woodson has been a coach since 1996.

He was a head coach for the Atlanta Hawks (2004-10) and New York Knicks (2012-14).

Woodson was recently the head coach of the University of Indiana men’s basketball team from 2021-25.
