England batter Heather Knight has been ruled out of all home international matches and The Hundred in 2025 after scans confirmed a significant tendon injury to her right hamstring.
An MRI scan revealed the extent of the damage, and she will now undergo further assessment. According to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the medical team “will determine the next steps of her management.”
No return date has been confirmed, but the ECB expressed cautious optimism about her recovery. “It is hoped Heather will be available for selection for the ICC Women’s World Cup in September 2025,” the board said in a statement.
Knight’s absence comes just days before England’s three-match ODI series against the West Indies, which begins May 30 in Derby. As a result, Alice Capsey and Lauren Filer have been called up to provide cover in the 16-player squad.
The 33-year-old former England captain has been a key figure in the side, and her absence is a major blow to the summer campaign. However, the additions of Capsey and Filer aim to strengthen the squad amid the uncertainty surrounding Knight’s recovery timeline.
Capsey, an all-rounder, and Filer, a fast bowler, bring fresh options as England looks to adjust to the setback. Knight’s condition will continue to be monitored by the England Women’s medical team, with further updates to follow as her rehabilitation progresses.
