Kraken Likely Asking Price for Jared McCann Revealed

Following another year of missing the playoffs, the Seattle Kraken are hoping for better results in 2025-26. Seattle has missed the postseason in three of the four years that it has been a franchise in the NHL.

For this team to start consistently winning, the front office may need to take some drastic measures. One of those could be trading away star Jared McCann, who has been electric on the ice for Seattle.

Last season, McCann put up 22 goals and 39 assists over 82 regular-season games played. This marked his third consecutive season putting up at least 61 points for the year.

McCann has two more seasons on his current deal and is scheduled to make $5 million each year. The veteran has been one of the better players for the Kraken since he joined the team years ago, and trading him could be detrimental to the success on the ice.

But the Kraken also want to get back to the postseason, and the team could likely land some strong assets for the veteran. However, it seems that the price for McCann remains very high ahead of the new year.

Asking Price for McCann Revealed?

According to Kraken insider Rob Simpson of Seattle Hockey Insider, the team doesn't seem like it will move McCann. Seattle is putting up a massive asking price, likely to deter teams from trying to land him.

"It would take a king’s ransom to pry McCann loose at this point, and it would still take a pretty hefty offer come late November or December should the Kraken falter in the early season. If they do, and the playoff chances look slim after US Thanksgiving, then the trade talk will triple," Simpson wrote.

While it does seem like Seattle will keep McCann around for now, the idea of a trade isn't going away. If the Kraken don't get off to a strong start this season, the front office may be forced to engage in trade talks for the veteran.
