The preseason is finally over for the Las Vegas Raiders, after losing their last game to the Arizona Cardinals, only quarterback Aidan O’Connell fracturing his wrist would end up being the biggest storyline.

The Raiders were going to go into the 2025 season under their new regime with the idea that they would have a fantastic quarterback situation, from top to bottom. They traded for Geno Smith to get their franchise guy, and that’s where it all started.
But, they still had Aidan O’Connell as the backup, and he’s a guy who has started a ton of games in the last few years. Then at their third string position, the Raiders have a guy on rookie QB Cam Miller who looks like he could have some upside. But now, the injury to O’Connell kind of stuffed a sock in the conversation.
And, it’s worse when you think about the layers of O’Connell suffering a fractured wrist injury.
O’Connell was going to be the second string quarterback on the Raiders initial 2025 depth chart, make no mistake about it. But, Miller was pushing for that spot pretty heavily. Miller having a great preseason and training camp didn’t help the trade rumors, either.
Before the preseason even really started – pretty much when the new regime was hired and they traded for Smith, insiders reported that the Raiders were gauging the interest around the league in O’Connell.
So, now they not only will miss O’Connell for 6-8 weeks, but, if they did want to trade him, it’s going to be a bit harder to do so. This also could now shake up the Raiders depth chart a bit, where you could almost guarantee that they would keep three QBs so that Miller wouldn’t have to hit the waiver wire, as to now they’re likely only going to have two guys unless they sign one.
