Latest NCAA tournament projection sees Tennessee Vols in a potential spot to take on one of their most hated rivals for a trip to Omaha

The Tennessee Volunteers are out of the 2025 SEC baseball tournament after a 10-0 run rule loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday.

However, it appears as though the Vols did enough work in Hoover to secure a hosting opportunity next weekend.  D1 Baseball put out their most recent NCAA tournament projections early Sunday morning, and the Vols checked as the 14 overall seed and regional host.

D1 Baseball has Tennessee as the 1 seed with West Virginia, Western Kentucky, and Miami (OH) as 2 through 4, respectively.  First, let's be clear.  West Virginia is no joke as a 2 seed.  They've received consideration to be a host for a while and would be one of the first schools to miss hosting as a 2 seed in the 14 region.

That being said, if the Vols were to get past West Virginia and the rest of the field and emerge as winners of the Knoxville regional, D1 Baseball would have Tennessee most likely traveling to Fayetteville, Arkansas for the second time in a month to take on the Hogs in the Super Regionals.  Arkansas is projected to have Kansas, Creighton, and Arkansas-Little Rock in their regional. The Vols dropped 2 out of 3 against Arkansas in Fayetteville last weekend to conclude the regular season.

A Tennessee-Arkansas clash for a trip to the College World Series is a very plausible scenario, as the Hogs should be one of the top national seeds in the tournament while the Vols seems likely to be in the 13-14 range, meaning a Super Regionals matchup is a distinct possibility - if both teams advance, that is.

Tell me that wouldn't be spicy.
