Depending on your preferred, preconceived narrative, Shedeur Sanders was either lousy or legendary in his first practice at Cleveland Browns' rookie minicamp. Get used to it with one of the NFL's most polarizing players.
As video of some assorted throws by Sanders flooded the internet Friday, some fans laughed at his "wobbly" passes. Others, like weirdly unofficial fan club president and NFL aggregator Dov Kleiman, claimed Shedeur is already "sharper" than co-rookie Dillon Gabriel while lauding the fifth-rounder for, well, anything and everything.
"Star," Kleiman wrote on his social media. "Shedeur Sanders was one of the LAST players to leave the Browns' rookie minicamp today. Shedeur is always willing to put in extra hours. This speaks volumes about his character. A mindset that can't be taught."
But ... we know that with Shedeur everything was indeed "taught" and groomed by his father Deion, right? (Speaking of, the clock is ticking on Deion petitioning the Browns to retire No. 12 after Shedeur completed a couple of passes at rookie minicamp.)
Even NBA superstar - and Cleveland-area native - LeBron James jumped into the mix of reactions after Shedeur's first practice. Surprisingly, basketball's all-time scoring leader was positive without any grand proclamations. The four-time champion posted a video of Sanders at rookie minicamp on his Instagram along with an encouraging message.
Wrote James, "1 day at a time."
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was asked about Gabriel getting the first reps over Sanders. He tried his best to stop the media from making this a controversial topic.
"I wouldn't look into anything," Stefanski said. "You’ll see the whole weekend, going through the spring, we don’t play too close attention to who’s in there first."
Welcome to the Shedeur Circus.
