Lee Corso's ESPN GameDay Headgear Record Before Final Selection
© Gary Cosby Jr.-Tuscaloosa News / USA TODAY NETWORK

It's unfortunately the end of an era.

ESPN College GameDay host Lee Corso will be choosing his final headgear pick on Saturday, Aug. 30, for the Week 1 matchup between No. 1 Texas and No. 3 Ohio State.

Corso began with the broadcast in 1987 but implemented the iconic headgear pick in 1996 prior to a matchup between Ohio State and Penn State. Oddly enough, at the time of his retirement, Corso has chosen the Buckeyes over any other team in the country (45).

Will Corso choose Ohio State to start and end his headgear stint in the same fashion? We'll soon find out. In the meantime, let's take a look at how Corso has fared over the last 30 years or so.

Corso has an impressive overall record of 286-144 with headgear picks. That marks a .665 win percentage with 430 selections. It includes one undefeated season, 1999, where Corso went a perfect 11-0 on headgear picks.

Many believe the Longhorns will defeat the Buckeyes on Saturday, but no one can fault Corso for taking the Buckeyes with his final pick. After all, he would just be going back to where he started.
