Livvy Dunne gained worldwide fame as a gymnastics standout at LSU, but her career with the Tigers may be coming to a sad ending.
The gymnast and social media took to Instagram on Thursday to announce that she had been sidelined by a knee injury that would force her to miss senior night on Friday against the No. 10-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.
"Hi friends! Unfortunately I've been dealing with an avulsion fracture of my patella and will not be able to compete on senior night," Dunne shared in her Instagram stories. "It absolutely breaks my heart to not get the opportunity to compete in the PMAC one last time. Tiger fans, you've been so good to me! Thank you for the endless support and Geaux Tigers!"
It was not clear how much longer the knee injury could keep Dunne sidelined, but an extended absence would likely end her collegiate career.
Dunne helped lead LSU to a national championship in 2024, then announced after graduating in December that she would return for a fifth season.
“Dear LSU, these past four years have changed my life,” Dunne said in a video announcement, via People magazine. “There’s something about putting on a purple and gold leotard. There’s something about competing in front of 13,000 screaming Tiger fans.
"There’s something about being pushed by your coaches to be your very best. And there’s something about being a part of a team that made school history.”
Dunne has made a significant impact beyond the gymnastics world, building a vast social media presence that includes many sponsorship deals. On3.com reported that she has the fourth-highest name, image and likeness (NIL) valuation of any collegiate athlete, behind Texas quarterback Arch Manning, Duke forward Cooper Flagg and Miami quarterback Carson Beck.
