Lou Holtz on Ryan Day: ‘He doesn’t want to talk about Michigan’

Over the weekend, Ohio State defeated Notre Dame, 16-14, on the road in South Bend. After the game, an emotional Ryan Day called out (86-year-old) Lou Holtz for saying that the Buckeyes aren’t a tough football team. Today, the beef between the two coaches took another turn, with Holtz claiming that all of this is because Day doesn’t want to think about his losing record against Michigan football.

After Ohio State beat Notre Dame, Ryan Day went after Lou Holtz, he said the Buckeyes only played “one bad half” over the last few years, and more. Needless to say, it has the media and fans buzzing right now.

Today, the ex-Notre Dame coach fired back, stating that Ryan Day simply doesn’t want to think about Michigan football.

“I can understand why he did,” Lou Holtz said of Ryan Day ranting after his win over the Irish, according to OutKick. “He doesn’t want to talk about Michigan — 0-2. He doesn’t want to talk about the big game coming up against Penn State and against Michigan again. He’s a great coach. He’s done a tremendous job. He’s a great offensive mind. He hired an outstanding defensive coordinator from Oklahoma State. I think he’s doing a tremendous job. Ohio State’s a good football team. I don’t think they’re a great football team. He can go after me all he wants.

“You look at coach Day, and he has lost to Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Michigan twice,” he added. “And everybody that beats him does so because they’re more physical than Ohio State.”

Later this fall, Michigan football looks to make it three-straight against Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Seeing as the Wolverines went to Columbus in 2022, the Buckeyes must come to Ann Arbor in Week 13 for the first time since their 42-27 loss back in 2021.
