The LSU Tigers won't have to deal with one intriguing playmaker as they take on the Clemson Tigers this week. While no one should ever root for mistakes by collegiate players, the reality is that stuff happens. Clemson will be without tight end Ian Schieffelin for Week 1 after he was charged with a DUI, even though it was dismissed.

Earlier this week, the fifth-year senior but first-year football player released a statement about his punishment from Clemson. The basketball player stands 6-foot-7 and 260 pounds, and could've been an x-factor for LSU to consider when he got onto the field. Schiefflin wasn't going to start, as Olsen Patt-Henry is in line there, but he brought a unique threat.

Here's the statement from Schieffelin:

"I have learned a valuable lesson from this experience and my commitment is to grow from this, and to represent Clemson with the integrity and character it deserves."

Instead of being suspended longer for "driving rapidly and swerving" over the double yellow line and speeding past a police officer's vehicle from behind, Schieffelin caught a break. He did not complete a breathalyzer test and was released on bond that day at 9:10 AM.

Last season, Swinney expressed interest in recruiting Schieffelin for the football team. This spring, Schieffelin officially joined Clemson’s football roster. Initially, he entered the transfer portal to pursue a fifth year of college basketball but ultimately decided to accept Swinney’s football offer and stay at Clemson for the 2025 season.

In his fourth year with Brad Brownell’s basketball program, the 6-foot-7 forward posted career highs, averaging 12.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game for the Tigers.
