The LSU gymnastics squad will have some stiff competition in the NCAA National Championships.
First up, the spotlight is on the very talented Oklahoma Sooners. OU is currently ranked No. 2 and has won six National Championships since the start of the program in 1981.
Oklahoma has some powerhouse gymnasts including Jordan Bowers, Audrey Davis and Faith Torrez. The Sooners secured their 15th consecutive regional championship and 17th overall on Sunday night, achieving the top regional score among all four locations with a remarkable 198.450 at the Seattle Regional.
The Sooners secured six individual regional titles during the second round on Friday, with junior Faith Torrez winning the all-around, bars, beam, and floor events. Senior Jordan Bowers and Audrey Davis also claimed a share of the bars title alongside Torrez. Jordan Bowers earned a perfect 10 score on the vault, uneven bars and floor exercise along with a 9.99 on the balance beam for a remarkable 39.900 overall score in the last meet.
After the match, Bowers said, “I just felt a sense of freeness coming into tonight especially from day one to day two. I really wanted to feel the freeness and give my full confidence to do my gymnastics, and what I do every single day. And that’s exactly what I did…No moment is bigger than you and just go out there and do what you know how to do snd have fun.”
Bowers went on to talk about the keys to success for the Sooners at the Championships in Fort Worth. She said, “Bringing in that momentum, honing in on the details and getting back to work…We’re so excited and so blessed!”
