Mondo Duplantis, a former track and field athlete from LSU, achieved a significant milestone on Monday by being awarded the 2025 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year.

At the annual awards presentation, Mondo took to the stage and expressed his gratitude in being presented with the trophy.

“Truly I’m honored. I think it’s really great what Laureus is doing not only for honoring the best athletes in the entire world but also everything behind the scenes and a lot of the work done for the development of youth and helping out people who don’t always have the same access as everybody else. I think that’s great and you know, I’m really a product of my environment. I want to give a really, really big shoutout to my mom and dad, Dez, my family, BSG, because what I think what I really did well was surround myself with people who inspired me…I think that’s so important to surround yourself with those kind of people and I definitely wouldn’t be in this position, holding any award like this, if it wasn’t for those who inspired me so much and made me who I am today. Thank you guys so much, this is crazy. Thank you.”

Before leaving the stage, Mondo was also asked about his 11 world records and if he could break more heading to Los Angeles in 2028. He replied, “Yeah, hopefully a few more. I think that there’s more in the tank and I think that there’s going to be more coming. LA’s quite a bit away too, three years so that’s a good bit of world records I can hopefully chip off before then and maybe we can do something special in LA too.”
