Marlon Wayans Reveals Offensive Joke He Made About Magic Johnson
Robert Deutsch / USA TODAY NETWORK

Marlon Wayans was a guest on Shaquille O'Neal's 'Big Podcast'. O'Neal was talking to Wayans about his approach to comedy, where Wayans revealed that he would make jokes about Shaq and Magic Johnson, and upon Shaq's inquiry, Wayans revealed the joke he made about Johnson, which was highly offensive, to say the least.

"I don't do the same jokes in stand-up, I retire the material. I do something brand new. You're good. I got my Shaq joke in, you and Magic, y'all good..."

"Oh no, you ain't gonna get me to say that sh*t. I just said he had the good AIDS. What AIDS did you get if you lived 50 years? I want those AIDS. He's become a billionaire with AIDS. Give me those AIDS. What kind of AIDS is this? Financial AIDS?"

"I don't wanna bump into Magic. I love Magic, too. Sometimes, my mouth gets me in trouble."

Marlon Wayans certainly made quite the risque comments about Magic Johnson. Considering it is at least 30 years after his diagnosis and subsequent retirement from the NBA, he has been able to find success in spite of the diagnosis. But that doesn't make the jokes any less offensive.

Marlon Wayans Crosses The Line

Magic Johnson was diagnosed with HIV ahead of the 1991-92 NBA season. Upon learning of the prognosis, Johnson immediately retired from the NBA, so as to not put the rest of the league. Of course, the players were not going to be at risk, as HIV was sexually transmitted, but there wasn't a lot of awareness of the disease at the time.

Johnson would make a one-night return to the NBA in 1992, as he was voted as a starter in the NBA All-Star game. The following summer, he would represent Team USA at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, becoming one of the key stars of the iconic 'Dream Team'

In the same interview, Marlon Wayans talked about making Kobe Bryant angry by poking fun at his teammate Pau Gasol. It got to the point where Bryant had to intervene and tell Wayans to stop making jokes at Gasol's expense, claiming that he would help Bryant win a championship, which he did.

Wayans couldn't have made any Lakers fans happy with his recent comments, making fun of two players who were integral to bringing multiple championships to their franchise. But he did stress that he was just kidding and didn't mean any harm by what he said.

It just goes to show how passionate the Lakers fanbase is, especially when it comes to legends of their franchise that brought championship glory. The fact that they will go out of their way to defend their honor is admirable.
