Matt Campbell is locked in at Iowa State for the long haul.
The Iowa State Cyclones announced a finalized contract extension keeping Campbell on staff through the 2032 season. The deal earns him $5 million per year in total compensation, with performance incentives available on top.
Matt Campbell emerged as Iowa State’s all-time wins leader during the Cyclones’ breakout 2024 campaign. That season delivered the program’s first-ever 11-win record, a return to the Big 12 title game, and a narrow Pop‑Tarts Bowl victory over Miami. It marked the best single-season outcome in school history.
Campbell has earned Big 12 Coach of the Year honors three times. Though his previous deal paid $4 million annually, Campbell chose to accept a modest reduction in pay to help expand his staff pool and allow Iowa State to invest nearly $1 million in football NIL revenue-sharing.
Coach Campbell can make an additional $250,000 per win beyond seven regular‑season victories, up to $1.5 million for a perfect 12‑0 season. Other bonuses hinge on Big 12 standings placement and conference title appearances.
Campbell has transformed Iowa State since arriving in Ames ahead of the 2016 season. He guided the program to multiple historic milestones, including the school’s highest final AP ranking, and is fresh off a double-digit win season.
Cyclones AD Jamie Pollard called stability critical in the current college athletics landscape. With this extension, Iowa State solidifies its leadership while preparing to compete at elite levels again in 2025.
The agreement gives Campbell nearly a decade of job security. His commitment strengthens Iowa State’s position in the conference both on and off the field, heading into an era defined by revenue sharing, roster continuity, and rising Big 12 parity.
