The transfer portal has been open since April 16th and so far, Nebraska football hasn’t had a single player leave. It was a similar story during the winter window.

There are always some departures. Technically, there were two in the spring window in Eric Fields and Corey Collier, but neither was on the spring roster for Nebraska football.

When asked about this by the local media after Saturday’s scrimmage, Rhule responded, “Why would you want to go anywhere else?

The Nebraska football head coach went even further. The full three-minute video is posted here, but here’s maybe the best quote:

“I mean we have the best facilities in college football. An elite education. The best academic services I have been around. Elite life skills and player development. The best nutritionist in football. One of the best strength coaches I have ever been around. Elite sports medicine and sports science. You wanna go to the NFL? You have a bunch of coaches who have been to the NFL. Why would you go anywhere else? You have the best fanbase in college football?

“We have it so good here.”

It’s pretty awesome hearing Rhule lay it out like that. It makes you believe that he can win and I believe that winning will start in 2024, thanks to the upgrades at quarterback.

Nebraska basketball adds Wisconsin transfer

The Huskers added another former Big Ten player as Connor Essegian, an All-Big Ten freshman two years ago, announced his commitment to Nebraska basketball on Sunday.

After averaging 11 points per game as a freshman, Essegian played only seven minutes per game and scored three points per game last season. But he’s made 89 career 3-pointers. He’s also an 88 percent free throw shooter for his career. With more minutes next season, the production should increase.

Essegian will likely battle with Gavin Griffiths, another former Big Ten transfer, for a starting job. Regardless of who starts though, both should play more and get more shots than they did last season.

All in all, you have to like what Fred Hoiberg is building. Right now, it feels like another NCAA tournament-caliber team.

Nebraska baseball games three-game set from Maryland

Nebraska baseball notched its 25th win of the season on Sunday against Maryland. The Huskers fell to the Terps 11-2 on Saturday but rallied back to win the third game of the series, 16-4. The seven-inning affair, ended early by the Huskers, gave them the series win. It also improved Nebraska to 8-4 in the Big Ten, which has them tied for second with Purdue. Illinois is in first with a record of 10-2.

Will Walsh got the start for Nebraska baseball and was the first pitcher this season for the Huskers to go past five innings on a Sunday. He went 5.1 and allowed four runs on six hits to earn his fourth win of the season. Cayden Brumbaugh led the way at the plate, coming a home run short of the cycle after a 3-for-4 showing with three RBI and four runs scored. Tyler Stone also went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.

The Nebraska softball team was swept this weekend by Michigan. Nebraska lost in walk-off fashion on Friday. They were also defeated 6-5 on Saturday and 11-3 on Sunday. They are 25-16 overall but 8-6 in the Big Ten.
