One of my old-man-style complaints is: Why can't companies wait until the Super Bowl to release, you know, Super Bowl ads. Once a gameday tradition, they are now exploiting social media to release ads earlier in the week and get the most impressions possible before the big game even kicks off.
Hey, I get it, people will still watch the Super Bowl but I can't be the only one who thinks spoiling the surprise kind of sucks, right?
But let me tell you something. If the tradeoff is you'll get Matthew McConaughey acting as several NFL legends, I'll take it!
That's exactly what Uber Eats managed to do in its latest Super Bowl commercial, this one a continuation from a regular season ad in which McConaughey tells Christian McCaffrey that football is a conspiracy to get people to buy food.
This time, McConaughey turns out to be the man behind said conspiracy and throughout the ad, he appears as none other than Green Bay Packers' legendary head coach Vince Lombardi.
McConaughey as Lombardi says "So the Packers were named after meat packers." Asked about a moniker for the fans, Lombardi responds "Cheeseheads!"

Later in the commercial, McConaughey also appears as Mike Ditka (who bluntly turns down Refrigerator Perry's request for a different nickname). As Peyton Manning, his cadence under center is "Omaha! Steak. Omaha! Steak."
So okay, you won't get us new Super Bowl ads the day of the game. That's fine. But can we do McConaughey maniacal conspiracies every year? Who do I need to reach out to?
