While four teams are still competing for an NBA championship, the other 26 teams are preparing for the offseason.
Of course, the headline for the upcoming NBA offseason is the stacked 2025 NBA Draft that is headlined by Duke’s Cooper Flagg, the presumptive No. 1 overall pick.
Flagg had an incredible rookie season at Duke, leading the Blue Devils to the Final Four and he is expected to hear his named called first in June’s draft.
The Dallas Mavericks are expected to take him first overall after they lucked out in the draft lottery, moving from 10th to first in the order and securing Flagg for the future of their franchise.
While Dallas has said that they do plan on keeping the pick and selecting Flagg first overall, former NBA player DeMarcus Cousins believes that they should instead trade the pick to the Phoenix Suns for Kevin Durant for one major reason.
“Cooper Flagg doesn’t fit that window, KD does,” Cousins said.

This is a bold statement by Cousins but one that does make sense, especially after Dallas traded away Luka Doncic at the trade deadline in February for Anthony Davis.
With their core of Kyrie Irving, though he will be injured to start the season, Davis, Klay Thompson and the rest of the roster, the Mavericks are in a position to compete for a championship next season.
Of course, Flagg would fit in well in their frontcourt, but with him still developing due to him being only 18 years old, the Mavericks could instead flip the top pick and add a veteran superstar like Cousins said.
Durant has been linked to the Mavericks since they tried to land him at the trade deadline, but they could also go after Giannis Antetokounmpo or a different star, though Durant and Irving do have chemistry.
While that may be the case, it is likely that Dallas holds onto the top pick in the upcoming draft but there is no doubt that if the Suns could acquire it for Durant, it would set them up much better for their future.
