Memphis Grizzlies 2025-26 projected starting lineup: Ja Morant faces yet another challenging season

After giving up Desmond Bane, the Memphis Grizzlies look to survive a season that doesn’t appear very promising for them.

The Memphis Grizzlies decided to make some big decisions this year, many of which affect the future of their franchise.

During last season, the Grizzlies fired Taylor Jenkins as head coach, despite him helping the team earn a top-5 seed at the time.

The Grizzlies replaced Jenkins with Tuomas Iisalo, who was on his coaching staff. But the big surprise came later in the offseason.

The Grizzlies traded Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic for a haul that included Cole Anthony, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and several draft picks.

2025-26 Memphis Grizzlies projected starting lineup

As the Memphis Grizzlies try to navigate the next season, they have very few expectations to compete. However, their roster isn’t weak enough to justify tanking in the Western Conference.

Here is what their roster is expected to look like:

Starting Lineup Second Unit
Ja Morant Scottie Pippen Jr.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Cam Spencer
Jaylen Wells Cedric Coward
Jaren Jackson Jr. Brandon Clarke
Santi Aldama Zach Edey

With all due respect to all the players, this roster just isn’t good enough to make a legitimate championship push in the Western Conference.

Furthermore, there is no guarantee that the Grizzlies won’t trade one or more of their secondary assets before or during the season. But those might not be the assets they need to move on from.

Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. might request trades to avoid rebuild

At this point, the Grizzlies don’t really have the roster to compete for a championship. And even with their haul from the Bane trade, there isn’t really a roadmap for them to land a superstar.

If the season pans out the way we expect, if not worse, Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. might consider demanding a trade.

Ja Morant has been linked to several teams via a trade. Despite his off-court issues, the Grizzlies superstar is still a sought-after commodity.

He wasn’t the only star to have his future be speculated on, as Jaren Jackson Jr. was mentioned as a New York Knicks target.

The Grizzlies need to do whatever they can to try and hold on to them. But if they demand a trade, they owe it to both stars to get them the best deal possible.
