The University of Louisville men’s tennis team held their Spring Sport Media Day on Wednesday, with head coach Rodrigo da Silva and fifth-year student-athletes Matthew Fung and Etienne Donnet in attendance. Coach da Silva expressed his excitement for the upcoming season, noting that the team has a mix of experienced players and talented freshmen. He mentioned that the team’s two seniors, Fung and Donnet, will be relied upon for their leadership.

The Cardinals will kick off their season with a doubleheader at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Wednesday. They will face Xavier at noon and Bellarmine at 5 p.m. ET. Louisville has a perfect record against both teams, with historic success against them dating back to the early days of the program.

The Louisville men’s tennis team has a packed schedule for the 2024 regular season, with 16 home matches. The team had some standout performances in the fall season, with Etienne Donnet earning the No. 16 spot in the ITA singles poll after impressive showings at the ITA All-American Championships and ITF M15 in Tallahassee. Will Mayew also made the rankings, coming in at No. 56. These were the highest individual rankings ever achieved by both players.

The squad is composed of 11 players, including six freshmen, two sophomores, one junior, and two fifth-year seniors. One of the freshmen, Enrique Pena, joined the team in January. On the leadership front, Donnet, Fung, and Mayew will be serving as captains for the 2023-24 season.

The Cardinals’ men’s tennis team is hoping to make waves this season and build on their previous successes. As they prepare to face Xavier and Bellarmine, fans will have their eyes on Fung and Donnet, who will be looking to lead the team to new heights.
