The New York Mets have had a tumultuous 2025 Major League Baseball season. After landing superstar Juan Soto in free agency leading up to the season, retooling with their sights set on their first World Series championship in nearly 40 years (1986), this season hasn't gone according to plan.
The Mets got off to a hot start to the season. They sat atop the National League East division, holding a record of 21 games over .500 on June 12 (45-24). Since that date, the Mets have steadily moved in the wrong direction. They have gone 26-37, holding one of the worst records in the league.
However, playing the Philadelphia Phillies, at Citi Field, appears to be the remedy for a struggling Mets' team. With Tuesday night's game tied at five, Brandon Nimmo stepped to the plate. Nimmo, drove a walk-off single into left-center field, giving the Mets a 6-5 victory in heroic fashion.
With the win, the Mets have now extended their winning-streak against the Phillies, at Citi Field, to nine straight games.

MLB took to their official X account to announce the impressive winning-streak. The Mets have now won two straight games (both against the Phillies) and four of their last five.
With the Mets currently trailing the Phillies by five games in the NL East standings, each game the division rivals are pitted against one another is crucial. The top two teams in the division will play each other five more times this season. They'll wrap up their three-game series at Citi Field on Wednesday, when the Mets will look to extend their winning-streak to 10 games. The Mets will then travel to Philadelphia for a four-game series from Sept. 8 through Sept. 11.
Tuesday's walk-off win comes on the heels of the Mets calling up one of their top prospects, right-handed pitcher, Jonah Tong. The Mets also called up their No. 2 prospect earlier this month, right-handed pitcher, Nolan McLean. McLean has made two starts at the MLB-level, giving up just two earned runs across 12 1/3 innings.
McLean will make his third start on Wednesday against the Phillies and former Mets pitcher, Taijuan Walker.
The Mets home, winning-streak over the Phillies extends all the way back to 2024. The last time the Phillies beat the Mets at Citi Field came on Sept. 20, 2024. The Phillies beat the Mets 12-2 on that day.
