The Miami Dolphins' offensive line, particularly as it relates to the players behind the starters, didn't exactly acquit themselves well during the preseason. Miami kept eight offensive linemen, which is a bit of a short number (they kept 10 in 2024), but you can - or should - only keep the players deserving of being on a football field at any given point in time, so the numbers game isn't necessarily bad there.
But the Dolphins still need to get better depth among the group, and general manager Chris Grier is doing that on Wednesday. He said during his press conference that he is re-signing former Dolphins OL Kendall Lamm.
"We'll be signing Kendall Lamm here later today back to the roster," Grier said. "Kendall has been a good player for us in the role he serves."
Grier was asked if he had any concerns about the back injury that limited Lamm last year for Miami, and he said that Lamm will go through a physical today, but that there's no issue to his knowledge.
"He'll go through his physical this morning, but I know in Philadelphia he practiced every day, did everything, and in talking to him last night, in good spirits, said he felt good. So, I just think it's one of those - right now he's healthy and feels good, so we don't really have a concern right now."
Lamm signed with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason on a one-year deal, two months after having back surgery in January. However, he was let go by the Eagles this week as part of roster cutdowns.
Lamm appeared in 18 games with 9 starts from 2023-24 for Miami, appearing in 17 games with 8 starts last season. As such, he brings valuable experience and is obviously familiar with Mike McDaniel's offense, so a reunion was a very logical one. The Dolphins already are dealing with an injury question mark at one of the tackle spots - right tackle Austin Jackson - so having another option at tackle with Larry Borom and Kion Smith is important.
Hopefully we don't have to see Lamm on the field much due to a rare break from the injury bug for this unit, but if it's necessary, Miami will at least have someone capable and experienced to call on.
