Both Buffalo and Miami University are 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the MAC. The winner of this is bowl eligible and still in the mix - although there’s still a lot of traffic - to play in the MAC Championship.
Miami University has a relatively easy home game against Ball State to close. Even so, it’ll need a whole lot of help with losses to Ohio and Toledo. The one saving grace is that it handed Western Michigan its only loss.
Buffalo can potentially help Miami’s cause with Ohio coming to Amherst next week. Its loss to Central Michigan and Akron hurts, but win the next two games, and there’s a path.

What went wrong over the last two games? The offense stalled.
The running game has been painfully inconsistent, but nothing worked last week against Toledo - a slew of turnovers didn’t help - and the inability to get a push up front was the problem against Ohio.
This is where Buffalo helps. The run defense isn’t anything great.
Miami is 5-0 when it runs for over 130 yards, Buffalo gives up 137 yards per game, and that’s not the biggest issue.
Speaking of inconsistent offenses, getting third down conversions out of the Bulls is sometimes like pulling teeth. Speaking of which …
Again, the Miami offense. Yeah, the running game matters because completing forward passes isn’t easy for this bunch.
Army. That’s the only team in college football that has a harder time getting the ball from the quarterback to the receiver. The RedHawks hit only 53% of their throws, and that’s not even the big problem.
The defense can’t come up with a third down stop.
Something has to give, and it starts with a Buffalo offense that’s a whole lot better when it’s running well.
It also helps when the Bulls can score points, which might seem obvious, but …
Buffalo’s offense has only been able to put up points against the truly awful teams on the schedule. The off part is that the Bulls have been fantastic on the road, but can’t score a lick at home.
That’s mostly because they have an odd slate, dealing with most of the MAC’s better teams in Buffalo.
For all of its flaws, Miami is one of the MAC’s better teams.
UB is 5-0 when scoring more than 20 points, 0-5 when scoring fewer. The RedHawk defense will make up for another rough day on offense.
