Michigan football doesn’t have a ton of commitments yet in the 2025 class and there has been concern that one of them, four-star defensive lineman Bobby Kanka was going to flip.

Kanka is from Howell, Michigan, and is the fifth-best recruit in the state for the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-4, 255-pounder is also a four-star and ranked No. 361 overall.

The in-state prospect was the first pledge for Michigan football in the 2025 class. That was back in August of 2025, but Wisconsin and other Big Ten programs have been pushing for a visit. Kanka was also expected to take an official visit to Tennessee, but he has reportedly canceled that visit.

A good sign for Michigan football with Bobby Kanka

What’s even better is that Kanka has scheduled an official visit to Michigan football according to a report by Allen Trieu of 247 Sports. Michigan State is another team that’s making a push for Kanka and the Spartans are on the schedule for a visit on June 14th.

According to Trieu, defensive line coach Lou Esposito visited Kanka on Friday morning. It looks like that trip was a success because Kanka is now taking his visit and took the Vols trip off the board afterward. Trieu said he hasn’t decided about his visit to East Lansing but sounds like he’s thinking about not taking it.

It seems like Michigan wants Kanka in the class. They are at least showing him that he’s a priority and that’s important, especially with a new D-line coach in the fold and technically the third since Kanka became a Wolverines commit.
